This month’s #WCW goes to Norma Liz of Zone Away. Norma lives in Dallas, Texas and I officially met her this past July at my Goal Diggers Brunch – Dallas event. Before this event, we were connected via a mutual friend. We are like-minded and I believe that is why I have been able to connect with her so easily. Norma initially signed up to be a vendor for her Real Estate business at my Brunch in Dallas, but after having several conversations with her, I decided to make her a guest speaker as well. Norma reminds me so much of myself, a single mother, hard-working entrepreneur. Being a single mother does not stop her from accomplishing and achieving her goals. I am so excited to share what Norma has coming up, which is the Zone Away Business Retreat in Austin, Texas so much more.
So Norma, could you give a few details about yourself?
My name is Norma Liz, I am from Dallas, TX! I am a mother of 1 beautiful daughter and I am a full-time Real Estate Entrepreneur.
Tell me about “Zone Away” and what else you may do.
I am a Real Estate Entrepreneur. I currently wear multiple hats but primarily investing through short term rentals. I have a passion for helping and educating others about Real Estate and the blueprint for success, especially those who do not have a Real Estate background. I also have a mobile notary business and a business retreat business.
What made you start Zone Away?
I actually didn’t plan on venturing out on my own. I lost my job back in February due to some changes within the company and I knew after that that I did not want to go back to work in corporate America because I hated the scary feeling of losing my job at any point. So, I decided to hire a business coach to gain clarity on what I wanted to do and just started working on my ideas from there.
Recently you launched your Zone Away Business Retreat that is set to be in Austin, Texas, October 25-27, 2019, could you give a little more details on this event?
Zone Away is for current and aspiring Small Business Owners/Entrepreneurs who need to get away to work on their business and have fun! If you enjoy solitude yet also really enjoy trying good food and drinks, nightlife, outdoor activities and meeting new like-minded people…then this trip is for you! I believe in working hard and playing hard; this is your opportunity to do both!! You will leave this retreat feeling accomplished, inspired, with new connections, and life long memories.

Did you face any adversities growing up, or even in your adulthood? If so, tell us about them and how you overcame them?
Yes, as a child I grew up witnessing domestic violence in my home as well as financial hardship. I knew I wanted to provide a better life for my daughter and she is what motivates me to constantly improve. God has always been my foundation for everything in life and that’s how I’ve been able to overcome anything in life.
What are your short term and long term goals?
Short term goals are to establish all of my sources of income and I am on the path to doing that. Long term is to continue walking in my purpose, give back to those in need and show other young single mothers how to achieve success despite their circumstances.
I know you have expressed being a full-time Entrepreneur? How do you like it? Do you prefer being an Entrepreneur or the “9 to 5” lifestyle?
I prefer a full-time Entrepreneur life. I believe in being time wealthy as well as financially wealthy. Full-time entrepreneurship allows me to have both.
What have you accomplished so far that you are most proud of? What do you think you can work on more?
So far, what I am most proud of is not going back to a corporate job. It can be very challenging changing your mindset from a corporate employee to an entrepreneur. I definitely know I can work on discipline and focus more. I am working towards waking up at 5 am every morning consistently and staying focused by reducing time spent on social media.
What is next for Zone Away? Where do you envision your organization being within the next few years or so?
I envision “Zone Away”, which is my business retreat, going international. I would also like to extend the retreat to more days and to encourage others to learn about different cultures to expand their mind.
What are some tips or advice you could share with anyone who may want to follow the same career path as you?
Write down your goals, dream big, do not limit yourself based on your limited resources. Then give your plans to the Lord and He will direct your steps, it’s amazing what happens when you step out on faith! When you look back at what you wrote down you will see how far you’ve come and you can use that to propel you forward.
